What is a 2-factor authentication (2FA)
2FA helps to enhance the security of your account and your digital assets. Each time you log in to Cobo wallet, in addition to the user name and password, you need to enter the dynamic code to log in. This effectively prevents account intrusion when the account password is leaked.
How to set up 2FA
The most commonly used software for 2FA authentication is OTP Auth and Google Authenticator. We will introduce how to set up 2FA using Google Authenticator below to ensure your account security.
Set up 2-step verification using Google Authenticator
Step 1: Turn on 2FA in Cobo App
Open Cobo App, tap on "Setting" in the bottom navigation menu, select "Google 2FA", complete text message authentication and enter the Google 2FA page as shown below:
Step 2: Download Google Authenticator
iOS users will need to login to the Apple App Store to search for "Google Authenticator". Android users can use the Google Play Store or search for "Google Authenticator" download in Google.
Step 3: Bind your Google Authenticator to your Cobo account for 2FA
There are two ways to bind your Cobo account to Google 2FA:
1. Scan the barcode
2. Enter the verification code manually.
When you successfully bind your Cobo account to Google Authenticator, be sure to note and save the 16-bit key in order to unbind or reset the two-step verification.
- Scan barcode
Click on the "+" button in the upper right corner, in the pop-up menu, select "Scan Barcode." Use your camera to scan the QR code generated from the Cobo app.
- Enter verification code manually
If you choose to manually enter the verification code, fill in Cobo account name, copy the first 16-bit key generated, paste in the top position, click the upper right corner to complete
Step 4: Complete 2FA setup in Cobo
After successfully scanning the QR code or entering the code, you will see Cobo appear in the Google Authenticator app. Congratulations, your 2FA has been configured. After backing up the 16-bit key, you can click on "2FA setup and backup complete" in the Cobo app.
After clicking "2FA setup and backup complete", enter the six-digit dynamic password generated on Google Authenticator, in this example 895004. If you entered correctly, the system will automatically go to the Google 2FA settings page with Google 2FA turned on.
Backup and shutdown
Backing up your 2FA 16-bit key ensures that in the event of loss of phone, or malicious activity by any third party, you will not lose access to your Cobo account. You can retrieve the 2FA in a new device and app to login to Cobo app.
Backing up the 2FA 16-bit key
We advice that you secure the 2FA 16-bit key in a safe place. You can write it on a piece of paper and store it in a safe as an example. If you have no idea what the code is and is locked out of your account. Please email email@example.com to talk to our customer service to reenable your account. We will be asking you for verification documents to proceed with any reset.
- Please title your email: "Reset 2FA - XXXXXXXX (your mobile number for logging into Cobo)
- Take a selfie in the following way, with your identification document (passport, identity card), your face clearly shown as well as a piece of paper writing that "I will like to reset my 2FA, signed by XXXX on XXXX date"
Turn off 2-step verification
If you want to turn off 2FA, you can do this on the settings page. Cobo team strongly recommend you not to turn off 2FA for your account security. The security of your digital assets is extremely important to us.
